Surabhi Sathish
Fascinated by space from an early age, Surabhi entered the 2022 Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition with “Trash in the Skies”—a project forecasting how space debris could multiply over the next century. It earned her first place in the Intermediate Individual Chemical, Physical & Mathematical Sciences category.
Since then, Surabhi has supported nanophysics research at University College Dublin (UCD), built hand sanitiser robots at the youth accelerator Patch, and developed a robot that uses computer vision to sort waste—which she exhibited at TECS and SciFest. She also joined the European Summer Program on Rationality (ESPR) in Oxford.
Still an aspiring astronaut, Surabhi is the head of the European Space Camp in Norway, where she has helped build and launch a rocket to nine kilometres. She is studying aerospace engineering at the University of Bath and recently spent a week at CERN, which sparked her interest in new materials for use in space.
Surabhi’s advice to Stripe YSTE participants? “Don’t limit your ideas—no idea is too big. Even if you have no experience, reach out to people who do. Someone will help.”
