Founder of Microdoc

Brian Kelleher

After learning to code at just 11, Brian first entered the Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition in 2019 with a machine learning model that predicted house prices. He returned in 2020 with a project titled “We Are Not Safe,” which identified vulnerabilities online and earned him a special award from Ireland’s national web domain registry.

That same year, at just 16, he founded Microdoc, a company that automates paperwork for doctors. The idea grew out of summer work as a medical secretary in his parents’ practice, where he saw firsthand how much time doctors spent on repetitive administration. He began by building small automations to make his own job easier and then learned how to commercialise the idea through the youth accelerator Patch.

Brian continued to grow Microdoc while studying mathematics and economics at Trinity College Dublin as a Naughton scholar. Today, Microdoc’s software is used by hundreds of doctors across Ireland and the UK, with plans to expand into the US and Australia. Brian has been named in Ireland’s 30 Under 30 and received an Emergent Ventures grant.

Brian’s advice to Stripe YSTE participants? “It’s important to tell a story about your project—whether that’s the technical odyssey or how your work benefits society.”
